Laying the Foundation for an Identity-First Healthcare Ecosystem

September 19, 2025

CLEAR has always believed that identity matters everywhere. We’ve built trust in the complex regulatory environment of airports, and for the past few years, we’ve been bringing that same expertise in security and seamless experiences into healthcare identity management. Recently, we’ve seen the healthcare industry begin to invest in identity like never before. From federal interoperability initiatives to industry events to new healthcare partnerships, momentum is building—and CLEAR is laying the foundation for a more secure, identity-first healthcare ecosystem. In this post, we’re recapping some of the most exciting moments from this past summer that illustrate this traction.

CLEAR, Nordic, & Epic UGM: Sparking Conversation on Identity in Healthcare

If you flew into Madison for the annual Epic UGM conference, you may have seen CLEAR at the airport—but not at the kiosk you might be familiar with! Our banners on the way to baggage claim were a nod to how identity connects every journey, from airports to healthcare. Our team was on the ground at UGM, connecting with leaders who are shaping the future of healthcare.

CLEAR also sponsored an event at UGM hosted by Nordic, a leading global health and technology consultancy, to bring together healthcare executives for a conversation on what's next in patient access and identity. Wee recently launched a partnership with Nordic to bring CLEAR1—our secure identity platform for businesses—to their health system clients. By embedding CLEAR1 into Nordic’s digital transformation efforts, Nordic can offer its customers a seamless way to manage identity across IT, HR, and clinical workflows, helping CIOs and CISOs solve critical challenges around security, usability, and compliance.

Epic Toolbox: Embedding Identity Verification at the Core

We’re especially excited about Epic’s recognition of identity as a foundation for seamless access to data through their launch of two new Toolbox categories for Identity Verification. CLEAR is excited to be included in both of those efforts, and is currently Under Construction in the Epic Toolbox for Identity Verification for MyChart and Identity Verification for EpicCare Link.

For MyChart, health systems using Toolbox will be able to unlock a turnkey solution that enables patients to verify their identity seamlessly and securely with CLEAR1. For EpicCare Link, the planned integration will extend those same streamlined, secure, and automated capabilities to community providers––helping accelerate access for distributed care teams.

These planned integrations demonstrate CLEAR’s commitment to securing every access point in healthcare while enabling greater interoperability across systems, patients, and providers.

Federal Momentum: CMS Champions Interoperable Identity

In July, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) unveiled its Health Tech Ecosystem initiative, a collaborative effort supported by more than 60 technology, payer, and provider organizations. Its ambitious goal: modernize healthcare through a secure, interoperable digital ecosystem.

CLEAR was invited to participate in this initiative for its proven role as a trusted, IAL2/AAL2-certified identity layer, anchoring ecosystem security with CLEAR1 as the reusable identity platform for patients, providers, and employees. By integrating CLEAR1’s interoperable identity solution, healthcare organizations can eliminate redundant verification, streamline access, and help CMS “kill the clipboard” in favor of digital, secure, patient-centered workflows.

For CLEAR, CMS’s embrace of interoperable identity represents another validation of the work we've been doing to make secure, reusable identity a reality in healthcare.

Health Systems Using CLEAR1 to Secure and Enhance Access to Care

We’re also seeing identity prioritized in health systems, where leaders are making bold moves to improve security and operational efficiency, as well as modernize the patient experience.

Hackensack Meridian Health, New Jersey’s largest and most comprehensive health network, will become the first in the Tri-State area to deploy CLEAR for patients. The health system will integrate CLEAR1 with Epic to simplify MyChart account creation and account recovery workflows, and soon transform appointment check-in with verification through Epic Welcome kiosks.

At Tampa General Hospital, CLEAR is modernizing workforce security by automating account recovery with biometric verification, protecting against emerging threats like social engineering and deepfakes. The results are striking:

  • 80% of account recovery requests automated through secure, self-service recovery capabilities
  • 99% faster resolution for help desk calls, with MFA reset time cut from 4.5 days to 20 minutes
  • 22% reduction in all account-related support calls ($70 per reset, according to Forrester)

Together, these partnerships highlight how forward-looking health systems are putting identity at the center of their operating frameworks and transformation efforts.

“Healthcare is at a pivotal moment where identity is no longer an afterthought—it’s becoming the connective tissue in the ecosystem. What excites me most is seeing leaders across policy, technology, and health systems rally around this idea. CLEAR has spent years proving what’s possible in complex environments, and now we get to help reimagine how identity can unlock trust, security, and simplicity in care. It’s inspiring to see that vision taking shape.”

– David Bardan, GM & Head of Healthcare at CLEAR

From leading EHR platforms to federal agencies to pioneering health systems, the message is clear: identity has moved from a background concern to a foundation for the future of healthcare. We’re excited to see that belief come to life across policy, platforms, and partners.
